Suno links no longer scan the recording
If you paste a Suno link into Safi, the recording is no longer checked. Your lyrics and style tags still come across and those parts of the report run normally, but the recording fingerprint and the composition scan do not run, because there is no readable recording for them to read.
Download the track from Suno and upload the file instead. An uploaded file runs the whole check with nothing missing. That has always been the stronger path and it is unaffected.
What changed at Suno
On September 3, 2026 Suno started capping how many songs you can download. They announced it themselves in an update to their downloads policy and in their help center. Their published limits are 7 downloads for the lifetime of a free account, 20 a month on Pro and 60 a month on Premier.
Their announcement also says this, and it is the part that explains everything:
“Every song in your library stays fully playable and shareable through links on Suno, on every plan including free.”
Playing stayed open. Getting the file did not. So a Suno link still plays perfectly in your browser while the audio behind it can no longer be opened as a file by anything outside Suno’s own player, including Safi’s server.
If you are on a free Suno plan, this costs you something. Seven downloads for the lifetime of the account is not many, and uploading a file to Safi means spending one of them. We would rather say that plainly than pretend the workaround is free. If you are checking a work in progress, paste the lyrics for a text-only pass and save the download for the version you actually intend to release.
What we measured
Five different Suno songs, fetched from Suno’s own servers between September 1 and September 8. Every download completed normally and returned the full file. None of the five could be opened as audio, by our server or by a browser’s own audio decoder.
| Date | Bytes downloaded | HTTP | Readable as audio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sept 1 | 3,958,559 | 200 OK | no |
| Sept 7 | 1,033,597 | 200 OK | no |
| Sept 8 | 2,767,908 | 200 OK | no |
| Sept 8 | 2,887,079 | 200 OK | no |
| Sept 8 | 3,463,291 | 200 OK | no |
We also watched a Suno song play in a live browser session on September 8. The player fetches the same file we fetched and unlocks it inside the page. There is no second, open copy sitting somewhere for a server to read.
What we are doing
The Safi Chrome extension read the audio the same way, so it is paused rather than handing back a check with half of it missing. Anyone on a paid plan who was using it should upload files in the meantime, and we are contacting those customers directly.
We are looking at whether a pasted link can keep working on other platforms. We will not name one here until it is built and we have checked it ourselves. Uploading an audio file needs no platform’s cooperation, works today, and stays the path we recommend.
